In 2011, communities were given the opportunity to apply for Best Beginnings Council funds to create a formal early childhood coalition in their communities.  Butte received one of these grants. We brought together organizations and agencies involved with young children and formally formed the Butte Community Council.  With the assistance of a contractor, we completed an early childhood needs assessment for our community regarding the services available to young children under the age of five and their families. From this needs assessment the Council created a strategic plan with priorities.   Our priorities included:  BCC awareness in the community, coordination of early childhood training, home visiting, kindergarten screenings, Ages and Stages Social Emotional Questionnaire, pre-kindergarten, parent education, creating a community resource guide, joining the Montana Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, connecting with our local hospital, and children’s mental health.

Since our formation we have continued to add programs, subcommittees and initiatives for the betterment of our community.
